This massive contribution has directly benefited the city's recreational programs, infrastructure, and overall community engagement.

Better Together Playground Committee Named Volunteers of the Year

While all volunteer efforts are deeply appreciated, special recognition was given to the Better Together Playground Committee, which was named Willard Parks Volunteer of the Year at the January Park Board Meeting. The Volunteer of the Year award is selected by the staff of the Willard Parks Department to honor those whose dedication and contributions have made a significant impact on the community.

This year’s honorees—Marianne Hill, Doug Neidigh, Ray Nicholls, Kevin Tutton, and Josie Moore—played a pivotal role in the successful creation of the Better Together Playground, a 10,000-square-foot inclusive play space at Jackson Street Park. Their leadership, vision, and tireless efforts ensured that children of all abilities have a safe and welcoming place to play, a milestone that would not have been achieved without their hard work and passion.

A Year of Meaningful Contributions

Beyond the playground project, Willard’s volunteers have left their mark in countless ways. From helping organize beloved community events like Freedom Fest and Christmas on the Frisco, to coaching youth basketball, soccer, volleyball, and baseball, to maintaining the city’s parks and aquatic facilities, their efforts have made Willard a more vibrant and connected community.

Additionally, volunteers have played a crucial role in senior programs, providing 234 hours of senior fitness instruction and serving 780 senior lunches throughout the year. These programs ensure that older residents remain active and engaged, reinforcing the city’s commitment to inclusivity across all generations.

A Grateful Community

The Willard Parks Department expresses its deepest appreciation for every individual who has given their time to better the community. Their contributions continue to shape Willard’s parks and programs, ensuring they remain places of recreation, wellness, and connection for years to come.

“As a community, we are beyond grateful for the generosity and commitment of our volunteers,” said Jason Knight, Parks Director. “Without them, none of this would be possible. They are the heart and soul of our parks, and we look forward to another incredible year of making a difference together.”
