Veterans Day Parade

The 8th Annual Western Greene County Veterans Day Parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11 a.m., honoring the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The parade will begin at Willard High School, with participants expected to arrive for staging at 9 a.m. This event invites the community to come together in recognition of veterans' service and sacrifice, with a special focus on commemorating a key moment in World War II history. Registration for participants is open until October 31 and can be completed online at www.willardparks.com.

In addition to the parade, a Flag Retirement Ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Jackson Street Park. This solemn ceremony offers a respectful way to dispose of worn or damaged American flags, providing an opportunity for reflection on the symbolism of the flag and the values it represents. Veterans and community members alike are encouraged to participate in this important tradition.

The Veterans Day weekend will also feature the 22nd Annual Veterans Day Assembly at Willard Middle School on Friday, November 1, 2024. The assembly will begin at 9:30 a.m., following registration at 8:30 a.m. Sponsored by AMVETS Post 188, the City of Willard, and Willard Schools, this assembly aims to educate and engage the community, especially students, in recognizing the contributions of veterans from all branches of the military.
